Dr. Lisa Trahair is a Senior Lecturer in Film Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of New South Wales (UNSW). She holds a PhD from the University of Sydney and has contributed extensively to research at the intersection of film and philosophy, focusing on cinematic comedy, poststructuralist aesthetics, and psychoanalytic theory.
- Research Focus: Her work explores how popular and avant-garde cinema engage with philosophical concepts, particularly through comedy and ethical representation.
- Key Projects: Recipient of two ARC Discovery Project Grants, including 'Film as Philosophy: Understanding Cinematic Thinking' (2010-2013) and 'The Framing and Staging of Comic Performance in the Nineteenth and Early 20th Centuries' (2004-2006).
Prominent Publications: Her book The Comedy of Philosophy: Sense and Nonsense in Early Cinematic Slapstick (2007) and co-edited volumes like Second Nature: Comic Performance and Philosophy (2022) and Cinema and/as Ethics (2016) highlight her interdisciplinary approach. Academic Leadership: Dr. Trahair co-founded the Cinematic Thinking Network (100+ members), hosted international workshops, and serves as a referee for journals and academic promotions. She supervises HDR candidates in film studies, poststructuralist theory, and cinematic philosophy.
