Lisa Scheiwe

Dr. Lisa Scheiwe serves as a Researcher at the Institute of English and American Studies within the Faculty of Cultural Studies at the University of Paderborn, a position held since October 2017. She completed her PhD in English Linguistics at the same institution in September 2024 with a dissertation examining English accent representation in German educational materials.

Her research centers on Global Englishes and Acoustic Phonetics, specifically analyzing how German secondary school textbooks represent diverse English accents through corpus-phonological methods. This work addresses critical gaps in pronunciation pedagogy by documenting the underrepresentation of non-native varieties like Australian and New Zealand English in educational contexts.

Recent publications reveal a consistent focus on corpus-based analysis of ELT materials, with methodological innovations in speech corpus construction and phonetic evaluation. Her studies systematically document accent diversity (or lack thereof) in German classroom resources, contributing to international debates about linguistic imperialism in language education.

Dr. Scheiwe actively participates in the academic community as a member of the International Pragmatic Association and German Association for English Language and Literature. She provides Study Abroad advising services and teaches specialized courses ranging from Global Englishes to dystopian fiction linguistics, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to language study.
