Lisa S. Meredith is a Senior Behavioral Scientist at RAND Corporation and Professor of Policy Analysis at the RAND School of Public Policy. With 40 years of experience as a mental health services researcher, she leads multiple federally funded research projects focused on collaborative care models for mental health conditions including posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and opioid use disorder.
Dr. Meredith earned her Ph.D. in social psychology from Claremont Graduate University.
Dr. Meredith's research focuses on improving mental health services through collaborative care models, particularly for underserved populations. Her work addresses critical gaps in mental healthcare delivery, with emphasis on PTSD treatment in primary care settings, depression management, and integrated approaches for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. She has dedicated significant effort to developing and testing interventions that can be implemented in real-world healthcare settings, particularly Federally Qualified Health Centers serving vulnerable populations. Her research spans implementation science, clinical trials of evidence-based interventions, and addressing disparities in mental healthcare access.
Dr. Meredith's recent publications reveal a strong focus on healthcare provider well-being, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, and innovative approaches to mental healthcare for first responders and other high-risk populations. Her work examines organizational factors affecting implementation success, screening methods for co-occurring disorders, and strategies to improve treatment access for underserved communities.
Dr. Meredith has been the principal investigator on multiple federally funded research projects, including trials funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), and the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). She has led two multi-site randomized controlled trials: one evaluating Written Exposure Therapy for PTSD in underserved primary care settings, and another testing a community health worker-delivered intervention to increase vaccination uptake among patients with mental health disorders. She also led a PCORI trial testing Stress First Aid for healthcare workers during the pandemic.
