Lisa Ryden is a Professor and Senior Consultant Surgeon at Lund University's Department of Surgery. She serves as Principal Investigator at the Lund University Cancer Centre (LUCC) and manages multiple breast cancer research projects including the Liquid Biopsy and Tumor Progression in Breast Cancer initiative and Breast Cancer Surgery projects.
Dr. Ryden's research focuses on improving prediction models for regional and distant metastatic spread in breast cancer to enable personalized treatment selection. Her work integrates patient, clinical, and tumor-related data to achieve high accuracy in prediction. She characterizes archival tumor tissue from primary tumors and metastasis on protein and genomic levels, linking these characteristics to clinical outcomes. A key aspect of her research involves developing models to identify node-negative breast cancer patients who might avoid axillary surgery.
Her multidisciplinary research group includes clinical PhD students, clinical researchers, biostatisticians, molecular biologists, and technical personnel. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.
- Honorary Skou Professor (2019)
- Reutersköldska Priset i Kirurgi (Reutersköld award in Surgery) (2019)
- Nordiska Medicinpriset (2016)
Dr. Ryden actively supervises research students and leads multiple significant projects including 'Optimizing and individualizing adjuvant radiotherapy in breast cancer' and 'The T-REX trial.' Her research has been supported by Cancerfonden, Familjen Erling-Perssons Stiftelse, Bröstcancerförbundet, and Sjöbergstiftelsen.
She is actively involved in organizing conferences and workshops through LUCC, demonstrating strong leadership in the breast cancer research community with activities extending into 2025.
