Lisa Newington is a Clinical Lecturer in Hand Therapy at the Centre for Bone and Joint Health, part of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London. She combines academic research with clinical practice at Barts Health NHS Trust, previously working at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust.
- Education: PhD from the MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit at the University of Southampton (2016-2019) via an NIHR Doctoral Research Fellowship; Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at Imperial Biomedical Research Centre (2020-2023).
Lisa is a mixed-methods researcher specializing in upper limb rehabilitation, musculoskeletal health, and work-related interventions. Her current projects include a systematic review on outpatient musculoskeletal service recommendations, the FLARE trial comparing flexor tendon repair techniques, and a program grant to enhance work participation for individuals with chronic health conditions. She also supervises research for the Hand Therapy MSc program at the University of Derby.
As Deputy Director of the London Centre for Work and Health and a member of the journal Hand Therapy editorial board, she contributes to national and international hand therapy research. She previously chaired the British Association of Hand Therapists Clinical Evidence Committee and mentors allied health professionals through NIHR and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy schemes.
