Dr. Lisa Mansfeld is a Researcher at the Institute of Sociology, University of Duisburg-Essen, working in the Chair of Empirical Social Structure Analysis under Prof. Dr. Marcel Erlinghagen. Since February 2019, she has been conducting research on migration, family sociology, and social structure analysis. She is also an Associate Member of the Research Training Group "Cross-border labor markets" (RTG 2951) since April 2024.
Dr. Mansfeld received her Dr. rer. soc. from the University of Duisburg-Essen in 2024 with summa cum laude distinction. Prior to this, she earned an M.Sc. in Economics (along with an Honours Bachelor's Degree) from the University of Tübingen and University of Adelaide in 2018/2019, and a B.Sc. in International Economics from the University of Tübingen in 2015, which included a study period at Universidad de Guanajuato in Mexico.
Dr. Mansfeld's research focuses on international migration patterns, particularly examining emigration and return migration of Germans, the family-migration nexus with emphasis on partnership stability and fertility, consequences of migration, cross-border labor markets, and home office use and regulations. Her work employs life course approaches to understand how migration intersects with family dynamics and social structures over time. She has made significant contributions to the German Emigration and Remigration Panel Study (GERPS), providing valuable data on German emigrants and remigrants.

Dr. Mansfeld actively participates in academic self-government, serving in various capacities including as a representative in the Faculty Council (since 2024), Institute Council (since 2023), Ethics Committee of the Faculty (since 2022), and Examination Boards for Master's programs in Behavioural Data Sciences and Survey Methodology. She teaches seminars and exercises on migration, integration, life course approach, family sociology, and applied social structure analysis for Sociology (BA), Behavioral Data Science (MA), and Social Sciences (BA and MA Teacher Training) programs.
Her involvement in the Research Training Group "Cross-border labor markets" (RTG 2951) demonstrates her commitment to interdisciplinary research on labor mobility across borders. Her recent work on the effects of migration on partnership stability, family patterns, and economic outcomes has established her as a key contributor to migration research in Germany.
