Dr. Lisa J. Chamberlain is a Professor of Pediatrics at Stanford University and holds a courtesy appointment in the Graduate School of Education. She serves as the Associate Chair of Policy and Community Engagement and Director of the Office for Child Health Equity within Stanford’s Department of Pediatrics. Her work focuses on reducing pediatric health disparities through policy advocacy, community engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Dr. Chamberlain’s professional education includes a Medical Degree from the University of Arizona (1996), residency and internship at Stanford Health Care (1997–1999), and an MPH in Maternal and Child Health from UC Berkeley (2000). She is board-certified in Pediatrics and has completed a General Pediatric Academic Fellowship at UCSF/Stanford (2003).
Her research emphasizes child health disparities, health policy, and the intersection of medicine with social determinants. Notable initiatives include the Stanford Pediatric Advocacy Track, a nationally replicated program training pediatricians to address poverty-related health issues, and the California Collaborative, training over 800 pediatricians annually. She has pioneered interventions like Kinder Ready Clinics to bridge early childhood education and healthcare.
Dr. Chamberlain has authored over 130 publications, focusing on topics such as firearm injury prevention, migrant child health, and equitable clinical research recruitment. She has received numerous awards, including the inaugural Child Advocacy Award from Stanford Pediatrics and two of the university’s top teaching honors.
Administratively, she has led roles such as Medical Director of the Pediatric Advocacy Program (2000–2021) and Director of the Scholarly Concentration in Community Health (2005–2012). Her current initiatives address asylum-seeking children’s healthcare needs, diaper distribution programs, and policy reforms to enhance access to care for vulnerable populations.
