Lisa Hoopes is a Professor at the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, University of Georgia. Her research focuses on wildlife ecology, particularly avian population dynamics and habitat conservation in fragmented and urbanized landscapes. She holds a PhD in Wildlife Ecology from the University of Georgia (2008) and an MS in Forestry from the University of Florida (2003).
Her work emphasizes the intersection of ecological science and policy, with recent studies addressing migratory bird declines in southeastern forests and urban green space management. She has received the 2020 Excellence in Research Award from the Wildlife Society.
Dr. Hoopes has secured grants totaling over $2.5 million from NSF and USDA, supporting projects on habitat connectivity and landscape-level conservation. She collaborates with state agencies and NGOs to translate research into actionable conservation strategies.
