Lisa Herzog is a Professor of Political Philosophy and Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Groningen since 2019. She also directs the Centre for Philosophy, Politics and Economics and holds leadership roles in various academic initiatives. Herzog holds a M.Sc. in Economics from LMU Munich and a D.Phil. in Political Theory from the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. Her work bridges political philosophy with economic thought, focusing on social justice, ethics in organizations, and the philosophy of work and markets.
Her research emphasizes the philosophical dimensions of markets, economic democracy, and the normative aspects of work. Recent publications explore democratic governance, corporate epistemic power, and the intersection of big data with ethical responsibilization. Herzog’s awards include fellowships from Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin and Hamburg Institute for Advanced Study, and memberships in De Jonge Academie and Young Academy Groningen.
She leads major projects such as the VICI-funded 'Working Democracy' and the Ammodo-supported political philosophy of work initiative. Her grants and collaborations span interdisciplinary topics like deliberative workplace practices and the futures of democracy, reflecting her commitment to bridging theory and public engagement.
