Lisa Hardisty is an academic at the University of Salford, currently serving as interim Associate Dean for Knowledge Exchange in the School of Health and Society. Previously, she led the Directorate of Social Sciences (encompassing Criminology, Sociology, Social Policy, Social Work, Counselling and Psychotherapy, and Policing) until February 2025. She joined Salford in 2022 after 14 years at Northumbria University where she held progressive roles including Senior Lecturer in Journalism, Programme Director, Head of Subject for Media, and Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor for Learning and Teaching.
Her educational background includes:
- BA (Hons) Broadcast Journalism, 2:1 (1992-1995, part-time)
- Post Graduate Certificate in Academic and Professional Learning (2010)
Her research focuses on Trauma in Journalism and Leadership, informed by her 16-year broadcast journalism career at BBC Radio Cleveland and ITN. She actively bridges industry and academia through ongoing freelance work as a Senior Producer for Olympic Broadcasting Services, covering global events including Olympics in Japan, China, and Paris.
Throughout her career, she has championed student experience excellence and curriculum development across journalism and social sciences. Her leadership spans program direction, departmental management, and institutional learning strategy, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration within health and social sciences domains.
She currently drives knowledge exchange initiatives across the School of Health and Society, leveraging her unique practitioner-academic perspective to connect research with real-world applications in media and social policy contexts.
