Lisa Hager is an Associate Professor of Political Science in the School of American and Global Studies at South Dakota State University (SDSU). She holds multiple administrative roles, including Political Science Internship Coordinator, Lobbying and Government Advocacy Certificate Coordinator, Legal Studies Coordinator, and Pre-Law Society Advisor. Hager earned her Ph.D. in Political Science from Kent State University in 2016 and served as an American Political Science Association Congressional Fellow (2015–2016), working as a legislative assistant for Representative Daniel Lipinski (D-IL-3). Her policy work included education, agriculture, voting rights, and Native American issues.
Her research focuses on American political institutions, constitutional law, political behavior, and women in politics. Notable areas include judicial review dynamics, legislative effectiveness, and the role of gender in political campaigns. Hager teaches courses on constitutional law, the American presidency, and U.S. Congress. She has received awards for teaching and advising, including the Edward Patrick Hogan Award (2021) and Timothy J. Nichols Outstanding Advising Award (2023).
Her service includes roles on SDSU committees such as the Ethics Lab Advisory Committee and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Advisory Committee. She has contributed to media discussions on topics like presidential immunity and South Dakota politics. Hager’s recent publications explore court-curbing bills and educational policy advocacy among Latino lawmakers.
