Lisa Goodman is a Professor and Program Director in Counseling Psychology at Boston College’s Lynch School of Education and Human Development. She holds a Ph.D. from Boston University and specializes in community-based participatory research on intimate partner violence (IPV). Her work emphasizes survivor-centered approaches, particularly for marginalized groups including communities of color and unhoused populations. Key focuses include systemic responses to IPV, social network-based healing, and trauma-informed practices.
She has secured grants from the National Institute of Justice and National Institute of Mental Health, and developed tools like the Legal Abuse Scale (LAS) and Network Oriented Practices Scale (NOPS). Awards include the Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman Award (2014) and APA’s Consulting Editor of the Year (2012).
Goodman’s research team collaborates deeply with domestic violence advocates, prioritizing equitable partnerships and translating findings into actionable resources. Notable projects include evaluating GLBTQ-specific trauma-informed services and exploring gaslighting dynamics in IPV. She teaches courses on social justice, advocacy, and applied psychology.
