Lisa Demeyer is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the College of Science and Engineering. Her research focuses on Differential Geometry, Geometry of Nilpotent Lie Groups, and Algebraic structures such as Lie algebras and semigroups. She has been recognized for her teaching excellence, including the College of Science & Engineering Award for Outstanding Teaching (2017) and the 2009 Distinguished Teaching Award from the Michigan Section of the MAA.
Demeyer holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2000) and a B.S. from Seattle University (1993). Her academic career is marked by contributions to algebraic geometry and nilpotent Lie algebras, with notable publications exploring zero-divisor graphs, geometric properties of nilmanifolds, and applications of graph theory in algebraic structures.
Her scientific awards also include the Honors Faculty of the Year Award (2006–2007) and the College of Science and Technology Award for Outstanding Teaching (2007). Demeyer is an active member of professional organizations such as the American Mathematical Society and the Association for Women in Mathematics.
