Her research program critically engages Nineteenth-century American literature through feminist frameworks while exploring Appalachian cultural identity and Black/Multicultural literary traditions. Day's scholarly approach consistently bridges theoretical analysis with practical educational applications, particularly evident in her focus on relationship-rich pedagogy and open-access resource development.
Recent editorial leadership on 'Accessible Appalachia' (2024) and 'Slavery to Liberation' (2020) demonstrates her commitment to democratizing knowledge through open educational resources, while her 2022 publication on student success strategies reveals practical applications of her theoretical work. These contributions form a cohesive trajectory examining representation, access, and pedagogical innovation across literary and educational contexts.
Her distinguished recognition includes:
- Critical Thinking Teaching Award (EKU, 2022)
- Continuous inclusion on EKU Finest Mentor List since 2014
- Excellence in Teaching Award from International Alumni Affairs (2011)
As an award-winning mentor, Day cultivates undergraduate research through editorial collaborations and creative projects, with her 2022 co-authored publication highlighting institutional strategies for student success. Her editorial teams consistently bring together multidisciplinary scholars to produce impactful educational resources that address representation gaps.
Though not leading a formal laboratory, Day's scholarly ecosystem thrives through editorial collectives and keynote engagements that advance discourse in literary studies, feminist theory, and regional (Appalachian) scholarship, creating distinctive opportunities for student involvement in knowledge production.
