Lisa Crummett, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Biology at Soka University of America. She holds a PhD in Zoology from the University of Florida, and MS/BS in Biology from California State University, Fullerton. Her research focuses on coastal marine systems, evolutionary biology, and the interplay between diet and metabolic disease. Current projects investigate synthetic estrogen impacts on marine invertebrates and industry's role in shaping public understanding of type 2 diabetes risk factors.
Teaching responsibilities include Human Physiology, Nutrition, Zoology, and Marine Conservation courses. She advises undergraduate researchers and has collaborated with students on peer-reviewed publications since 2013.
Research interests span marine microbial diversity under climate change, phage-host interactions in cyanobacteria, and dietary influences on metabolic health. While no formal awards are listed, her work demonstrates sustained contributions to both biological sciences and science communication.
Current research projects include:
- Effects of estrogen pollutants on marine reproduction
- Ocean acidification's microbial consequences
- Public health messaging around metabolic diseases
Her teaching philosophy integrates empirical observation with theoretical concepts, reflecting her graduate school training in reflective environmental analysis.
