Lisa Clayton, D.O., M.B.S., FACEP, FAAEM serves as an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine, Florida Atlantic University. She holds multiple leadership roles including Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education and Designated Institutional Official (DIO), Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine, and Program Director for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Clayton also maintains clinical practice at Bethesda Hospital East and Delray Medical Center.
Dr. Clayton's educational journey began with a BS in Biology from The College of New Jersey (2004), followed by an MBS from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (2006), and a DO from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine (2010). She completed her Emergency Medicine residency (2010-2013) and an EMS fellowship (2013-2014) at Morristown Medical Center.
Her research focuses on emergency medicine with particular expertise in geriatric emergency care, trauma, medical education, and healthcare disparities. Dr. Clayton has developed a strong research program examining time-to-treatment metrics, imaging protocols for elderly patients, and the impact of anticoagulation on trauma outcomes. Her work frequently addresses racial disparities in emergency care and the development of educational curricula for emergency medicine trainees.
Analysis of Dr. Clayton's publication record reveals a strong focus on geriatric emergency medicine, with numerous studies examining time-to-imaging in elderly trauma patients, age-adjusted diagnostic protocols, and fall-related injuries. Her research spans clinical emergency medicine, medical education, and healthcare disparities, with recent expansion into neurogenetics through collaborations on epilepsy research.

Her leadership extends to clinical operations through her role as Department Chair and her ongoing clinical work at two major hospitals.
