Lisa F. Brown is Associate Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing, Department of Adult Health and Nursing Systems. She holds a PhD in Nursing from University of Wisconsin-Madison and completed postdoctoral training at University of North Carolina. Her research program centers on enhancing maternal competence through assessment of mother-infant feeding interactions, particularly in vulnerable populations including opioid-exposed dyads and premature infants.
Research investigates factors influencing feeding interactions including maternal anxiety, stress, confidence, and infant health conditions. Current projects examine intestinal microbiomes, infant growth trajectories, and neurodevelopmental outcomes. Brown employs mixed-methods approaches including real-time behavioral coding, physiological measurements, and qualitative analysis.
Publications demonstrate consistent focus on maternal-child health challenges. Recent work examines neonatal abstinence syndrome management, biobehavioral correlates in African American pregnancies, and technology integration for health equity research. Methodological strengths include RCT design, longitudinal analysis, and integrative review methodologies.
Honors include Fellowship in the American Academy of Nursing. Teaching includes evidence-based practice foundations and doctoral mentoring. Research utilizes the Langston Center for Innovation in Quality and Safety infrastructure.
