Dr. Lisa Berglund serves as an Associate Professor in the City and Regional Planning program within Morgan State University's School of Architecture and Planning, with a joint appointment at the Center for Urban Crime and Violence Reduction.
Her academic background includes a PhD in Urban Planning from UCLA, a Master of Urban Design from The Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), and a BS in Architecture from the University of Michigan.
Research focuses on the intersection of policing, surveillance, and urban inequality:
- How policing functions as an economic development tool during gentrification
- Displacement mechanisms linked to surveillance practices
- Privacy implications of smart city tracking technologies
- Critical analysis of urban design's role in social exclusion
Teaches CREP 520 (City and Regional Planning Studio II) and ENST 740/ARCH 445 (Gentrification and Neighborhood Change), examining how planning disciplines can develop alternatives for inclusive urban environments through critical theory frameworks.
Her work bridges urban planning, criminology, and civil liberties advocacy to confront systemic inequalities in neighborhood transformation processes.
