Lisa Bartnikas

Lisa Bartnikas, MD is an Attending Physician in the Division of Immunology at Boston Children's Hospital and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. She specializes in pediatric allergy and immunology with a particular focus on food allergies, Primary Immunodeficiency, and the Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES) Program. Dr. Bartnikas sees patients at both Boston Children's Hospital in Boston and at the Milford location of Boston Children's Physicians.

Analysis of her recent publications reveals a consistent focus on food allergy policies in school settings, health disparities related to food allergies, the psychosocial impact of food allergies on children and families, and research into Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES). Her work often examines the intersection of social determinants of health with allergy outcomes and management.

Dr. Bartnikas is the Principal Investigator on an NIH/NIAID K23 grant (2019-2024) titled 'Evaluating the Impact of School Nut-Free Policies' with Dr. Wanda Phipatanakul as her mentor. This research aims to determine how school nut-free policies affect rates of allergic reactions, environmental nut protein levels, and psychosocial distress.

Within professional organizations, she is active in the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI) where she co-chairs the Psychosocial Impact of Food Allergies workgroup within the Adverse Reactions to Foods Committee. This workgroup has published research evaluating allergists' knowledge of food allergy-related bullying and developed age-specific food allergy patient education handouts.
