Lisa Barca

Lisa Barca is a Teaching Professor and Honors Faculty Fellow at Arizona State University's Barrett, the Honors College. She holds a Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literatures from the University of Chicago and an A.L.B. in Humanities from Harvard Extension School.

• Environmental Rhetoric
• Contemporary Rhetorical Theory

Her work focuses on intersections of speciesism with gender, environmental ethics, and media discourse, using critical discourse analysis. She contributed to the scholarly volume Meatsplaining: The Meat Industry and the Rhetoric of Denial (2020).

• Harvard Extension School Reginald Phelps Prize for Academic Achievement

Prior to joining ASU, she served as a Lecturer at the University of Chicago and taught diverse courses at Maricopa/Pima community colleges and ASU, including academic writing, world literature, and Italian language/literature. She developed expertise in critical discourse analysis, feminist theory, and sustainability rhetoric.
