معرفی
Lis Frydenreich Hasholt is an Associate Professor at the Section of Neurogenetics, Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, University of Copenhagen. She has been a key figure in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine since 1971, progressing from Assistant Professor to her current position as Associate Professor. Her office is located at Blegdamsvej 3, 2200 København N.
- DMSc (dr.med.), University of Copenhagen (1989)
- Graduated in Genetics, University of Copenhagen (1971)
Professor Hasholt's research primarily focuses on molecular genetics of inherited neurodegenerative disorders, with special emphasis on Huntington's Disease. Her work investigates genetic and cellular factors influencing pathological mechanisms and disease progression. She leads the Section of Neurogenetics, which she co-founded with Associate Professor S.A. Sørensen in 1990. Her group studies basic molecular genetic, pre-clinical and clinical aspects of neurodegenerative disorders, exploring treatment possibilities through gene therapy. Her research spans trinucleotide repeat disorders (particularly Huntington's disease and spinocerebellar ataxias), prion diseases, spastic paraplegia, and hereditary forms of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.
Analysis of Professor Hasholt's recent publications reveals a strong focus on molecular mechanisms underlying Huntington's Disease and related neurodegenerative conditions. Her work consistently explores the relationship between genetic mutations and cellular pathology, with particular attention to potential therapeutic interventions. A significant portion of her research investigates the role of protein misfolding and aggregation in disease progression, while more recent work has expanded into metabolic aspects of neurodegeneration and potential cancer connections in Huntington's Disease. Her collaborative research extends across international boundaries, with numerous co-authors from different institutions.
- Co-organizer of the 19. International Meeting of the World Federation of Neurology Research Group on Huntington's Disease, Copenhagen (2001)
- Member of the board of Danish Huntington's Disease Association (LHC) (1999)
- Member of the board of Danish Society of Human Genetics (1993-1997)
Professor Hasholt has supervised 13 Ph.D. students through the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Copenhagen between 1993 and 2003. Among her advisees was a student who received a gold prize from the University of Copenhagen for research on gene therapy. Her research group, the Section of Neurogenetics, collaborates extensively with other researchers both nationally and internationally. Current research focuses on the effect of antisense down-regulation of huntingtin as a potential therapeutic approach for Huntington's Disease, investigating how to stop or down-regulate the expression of the mutant protein responsible for neuronal death.
Professor Hasholt leads the Section of Neurogenetics, which operates within the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The research group maintains strong connections with the Medical Genetics Program and collaborates with the Nørremølle Group, as indicated by her website affiliation. The team works on both basic and translational research, bridging molecular genetic findings with potential clinical applications for neurodegenerative disorders.
