Dr. Lior Gideon is a Professor of Criminal Justice at the Department of Law, Police Science and Criminal Justice Administration, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY. He holds a PhD in Criminology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and MA and BA degrees in Sociology and Criminology from Haifa University.
His research focuses on correctional treatment, rehabilitation of offenders, program evaluation, and international criminal justice policy. He has extensive experience with the Israeli Prison System and has conducted NIH-funded research on prison-based intervention programs. Current work explores social support mechanisms in offender reintegration and health-justice intersections.
- Research expertise includes substance abuse treatment, recidivism reduction, and public opinion on criminal justice policies.
- Has advised on large-scale studies, including violence in hospitals and female offender needs assessments.
Recipient of multiple grants and awards, including NIH/NIDA funding and CUNY research fellowships. He is co-chief editor of the Springer journal Health & Justice.
Teaching spans 17 years across universities in Israel and the U.S., emphasizing research methodology and criminal justice education. Active in curriculum development and international policy research.
