Linh Thi Xuan Phan is a Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, affiliated with the Computer and Information Science Department and the School of Engineering and Applied Science. She is a co-director of the MSE in Data Science (DATS) program and a member of the PRECISE Center and the Distributed Systems Lab.
Her research focuses on real-time/Embedded Systems, cyber-physical systems, distributed systems, and security. She develops theoretical foundations and systems techniques for building cost-effective large-scale systems with provable safety, fault tolerance, security, and real-time performance. Key projects include bounded-time recovery mechanisms for cyber-physical systems, scalable resource allocation for modern hardware, and defensive architectures for data centers.
Recent publications highlight trends in probabilistic resource usage learning, real-time intrusion detection, and fault tolerance strategies for multi-robot systems and aerial vehicles. Her work has received awards at conferences like RAGE, RTAS, and ICRA.
Scientific Awards:
- 2023: Best Paper, RAGE
- 2020: Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching
- 2018: NSF CAREER Award
- 2018: Outstanding Paper, RTAS
- 2017: ACM Future of Computing Academy
PhD students advised include Robert Gifford, Karan Newatia, Yifan Cai, Abby Eisenklam, and graduated students like Yang Li, Jaewoo Lee, and Meng Xu. She has served on program committees for RTSS, EMSOFT, and DATE, and held leadership roles in ACM SIGBED and IEEE TCRTS.
