Dr. Lingxuan Liu is a Senior Lecturer in Sustainability at Lancaster University Management School (LUMS), joining in March 2016. He specializes in sustainable supply chains, resilient food systems, circular economy, and ESG strategies with a focus on UK-China sustainability dynamics and developing economies. His research integrates environmental governance, multi-stakeholder processes, and digital economy impacts.
Education: PhD in Environmental Management & Policy from Nanjing University, followed by a two-year exchange at UC Santa Barbara on environmental governance. He has global NGO experience and serves as European PI for the JPI Urban Environment-funded SIRIUS project and Co-Investigator on Rurban projects. Consultancy spans SMEs and multinational corporations.
Research Interests: Urban food system resilience, supply chain sustainability in transitioning economies, China's Belt and Road Initiative impacts, and digital economy sustainability. Active in Lancaster Environment Centre collaborations and supervises 1-2 PhD students annually focusing on interdisciplinary sustainability challenges.
Key Projects: SIRIUS (Urban Food System Resilience), Rurban Revolution (Sustainable Food Systems), and studies on China's environmental governance transitions. His work bridges academic research with industry applications through consultancy and policy-oriented analysis.
Advising & Grants: Supervises PhD students at LUMS and Lancaster Environment Centre. Requires funding applications by January for October admissions. Research funding includes EU/JPI grants and industry partnerships.
Labs/Teams: Part of the Pentland Centre for Sustainability and Supply Chain Management group. Engages in cross-disciplinary initiatives addressing systemic sustainability challenges globally.
