Ling Li is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine with a secondary appointment in Pathology. She serves as co-director of the Sino-US Forensic Science Research Center and holds adjunct professorships at Johns Hopkins Medical School and George Washington University Forensic Science Department. Dr. Li has been a board member of the Child and Infant Loss Center since 2002 and the Maryland State Child Fatality Review Team since 2009.
Dr. Li graduated from Tongji Medical University in 1982, completed pathology residency at University of Maryland Hospital, and forensic pathology fellowship at Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. She is American Board certified in forensic pathology.
Her research centers on pediatric forensic pathology with intensive focus on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and traumatic head injuries in children. Dr. Li actively investigates child fatality cases to advance public health safety protocols and judicial accuracy, bridging clinical practice with forensic science methodologies through systematic analysis of pediatric mortality patterns.
Dr. Li has secured 13 research grants including continuous NIH funding for the University of Maryland Brain and Tissue Bank since 1998, with 2 active and 8 completed projects. She serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Forensic Science and Medicine and Associate Editor-in-Chief of Forensic Science Research while authoring extensive peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters.
Her distinguished contributions are recognized through:

- Excellent Teaching Award by Fudan University Medical College (2009)
- Outstanding Teaching Award by Zhejiang University School of Medicine (2014)
- Leadership Award by Dian Diagnostics (2015)
Dr. Li directs international forensic science initiatives including the Sino-US Forensic Science Research Center, maintaining academic appointments at Fudan University, Wuhan University, Tongji Medical School, Nanjing Medical University, and China University of Political Science and Law while lecturing at over 10 Chinese institutions on pediatric forensic medicine.
