Line Esborg is an Associate Professor in Cultural History and Museology at the University of Oslo (UiO), specializing in memory institutions, heritage politics, and digital folklore. She leads the Norwegian Folklore Archives since 2014 and contributes to interdisciplinary projects like SAMLA, a national infrastructure for intangible heritage archives, and REA:Life, which bridges natural and cultural sciences to revive medicinal knowledge.
- Education: PhD (2008) and MA (1995) in Cultural History, with a focus on folklore studies.
Research Interests span identity politics, history of knowledge, narratives, and citizen science. Her work explores how cultural practices intersect with scientific inquiry, particularly in digital heritage and participatory archives. She investigates the entanglement of natural history with humanist traditions through P. Chr. Asbjørnsen's legacy.
Key Projects: SAMLA integrates Norwegian tradition archives (folktales, crafts, life stories) into a FAIR-compliant digital infrastructure. REA:Life combines pharmacology and historical sources to identify bioactive compounds, while her subproject in The Afterlives of Natural History examines interdisciplinary knowledge practices.
