Dr. Lindsey Meeks is an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Communication at the University of Oklahoma. Her research focuses on gender, political communication, and media strategies, particularly examining how gender intersects with political campaigns, news coverage, and social media. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Washington (2013) and a B.S. from the University of Texas at Austin (2004). Prior to academia, she worked in marketing and project management.
Her work explores how candidates use social media (e.g., Twitter) to shape public perception, the gendered dynamics in news coverage of male and female candidates/journalists, and low-information local elections like sheriff races. Recent projects include analyzing climate change framing by political candidates and advocating for pro-democracy news coverage of under-covered local elections. She has published in top journals such as Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Communication Research, and Politics & Gender.
Her current research includes studies on school board election coverage and the impact of Kamala Harris’s dual roles as VP and presidential aspirant. She emphasizes the importance of personalization in candidate communication and the ethical implications of workplace communication post-#MeToo.
