Lindsey J. Munro

Dr Lindsey J. Munro is the Head of the Department of Natural Sciences and a Reader in Chemistry Education at Manchester Metropolitan University. She holds a BA (Hons) in Natural Sciences and a PhD in Theoretical Chemistry from the University of Cambridge. Her career includes postdoctoral research at the University of Pittsburgh and IBM Zurich, followed by roles at the University of Huddersfield before joining Manchester Metropolitan University in 2013 as Senior Lecturer. She was promoted to Principal Lecturer (Faculty Lead for Employability) in 2013, Reader in 2018, and Deputy Head of Department (Chemistry) until 2021.

Her teaching focuses on Quantum Chemistry, molecular modelling techniques, and computational drug design. She co-authored the textbook Maths for Chemistry (Oxford University Press), which integrates mathematical concepts with chemical applications. Lindsey has been recognized for her teaching excellence, winning the Student Union's "Best Teacher" Award in 2014.

Her research spans computational chemistry, including algorithm development for materials modelling, aroma chemistry (e.g., coffee aroma), antioxidant properties of flavonoids, and the role of odorant binding proteins in olfaction. She investigates surface interactions of atoms/molecules, nanodevice synthesis, and electronic properties of self-assembling systems.
