Lindsey Avery Fitzsimons is a PhD Candidate in Biomedical Science at the University of Maine’s Graduate School of Biomedical Science and Engineering and concurrently serves as an Instructor of Gross Anatomy and Integrative Histology at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNE COM). She holds a B.S. in Exercise Physiology from Skidmore College and an M.S. in Clinical Exercise Physiology from East Stroudsburg University.
Her research focuses on understanding congenital heart disease mechanisms, particularly the role of primary cilia in heart development, non-compaction cardiomyopathy, and estrogen/ErbB signaling in cardiovascular disease. She has conducted lab rotations at the Regan Lab (studying bone marrow microenvironment in multiple myeloma), Tucker Lab (congenital heart defects and primary cilia), and Townsend Lab (exercise-induced adaptations in adipose tissue and tanycyte biology).
Her publications span cardiology, oncology, and exercise physiology, addressing topics like primary cilia’s impact on cardiac development, HIIT’s effects on breast cancer survivors, and bone marrow pathophysiology. She collaborates across disciplines, integrating developmental biology, clinical cardiology, and exercise science.
