Associate Professor Lindsay Edward Wu is based at the University of New South Wales within the Faculty of Medicine & Health. He leads the Laboratory for Ageing Research, which focuses on fundamental mechanisms and interventions to maintain healthy ageing with immediate applications in fertility preservation, cancer treatment side effects, and understanding age-related susceptibility to infections like coronavirus.
- Faculty of Medicine & Health, University of New South Wales
- Principal Investigator, Laboratory for Ageing Research
- NHMRC Career Development Fellow
Dr. Wu's educational background includes a BSc (Hons I) from the University of Sydney and a PhD from UNSW. His research bridges basic science with clinical applications, particularly in the areas of NAD+ metabolism, reproductive ageing, and age-related disease susceptibility.
His research interests span multiple interconnected fields including the biology of ageing, cell metabolism, NAD+ biochemistry, reproductive ageing, and age-related infertility. The laboratory employs molecular biology, animal physiology, metabolomics and bioinformatics to investigate fundamental mechanisms of ageing and develop interventions. Current projects focus on new treatments to maintain female fertility during biological ageing and following chemotherapy treatment, the role of the pentose phosphate pathway in reproductive ageing, DNA transposons in genome instability, and NAD+ metabolism in age-related susceptibility to coronavirus infection.
Analysis of Dr. Wu's publication record reveals a strong focus on translational ageing research with particular emphasis on NAD+ metabolism, reproductive ageing, and interventions to preserve health during ageing. His work consistently connects fundamental biochemical mechanisms with potential clinical applications, particularly in fertility preservation and cancer treatment side effects.
- NHMRC Career Development Fellowship (RD Wright Biomedical Fellowship) APP1127821 (2017-2020)
- NHMRC Project Grant APP1139763 "Translating new advances in oncofertility" (2018-2021)
- NHMRC Development Grant APP1122484 "NAD+ raising agents for improving oocyte quality" (2017-2019)
Dr. Wu has maintained consistent NHMRC funding since 2015 and has successfully supervised students in areas including biology of ageing, age-related infertility, cell metabolism, and NAD+ biochemistry. His Laboratory for Ageing Research employs multidisciplinary approaches to address complex questions about the biological mechanisms of ageing and develop practical interventions. The lab's work has significant implications for improving health outcomes in older populations, particularly regarding reproductive health and resilience to diseases like cancer and viral infections.
