Lindsay Bernal is an Academic Coordinator for the MFA Program in Creative Writing and a Lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Maryland. She holds an MFA in Poetry from the same institution and has taught there for over a decade. Her work explores intersections of gender, sexuality, and art through poetry, addressing themes like objectification, identity, and domesticity.
Her debut poetry collection, What It Doesn’t Have to Do With (2018), won the National Poetry Series Competition. The book intertwines personal narratives with analyses of art forms like sculpture, painting, and performance art, examining how cultural landscapes shape self-definition.
Bernal’s research and creative output reflect a focus on feminist theory and contemporary literary practices. She is affiliated with the university’s writing programs and has published in journals such as Blackbird and Gulf Coast.
