Linda Young

Linda Young serves as a Part-time Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Chicago, with joint affiliations at James Franck Institute and The College. She simultaneously holds the Distinguished Fellow position at Argonne National Laboratory. Young obtained her S.B. from MIT and Ph.D. from UC Berkeley before beginning her research career at Argonne.

Her research focuses on nonlinear x-ray interactions with matter enabled by x-ray free electron lasers. Current investigations examine fundamental light-matter interaction phenomena at extreme intensities and timescales.

Young has received significant honors including Fellowship in the American Physical Society, JILA Visiting Fellowship, and Helmholtz International Fellowship. She previously directed the X-ray Science Division at the Advanced Photon Source and chaired the Division of Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics of the APS.
