معرفی
Professor Linda Partridge is a distinguished Professorial Research Fellow at University College London in the Department of Genetics, Evolution & Environment. She serves as the Director of the Institute of Healthy Ageing at UCL and is the Biological Secretary at the Royal Society. Professor Partridge is also the founding director of the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing in Cologne, Germany.
Professor Partridge received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oxford in 1971 and her Doctor of Philosophy from the same institution in 1974. Her academic journey includes positions as Weldon Professor of Biometry at UCL since 1994, Director of the Centre for Ecology and Evolution (1994-2007), NERC Research Professor (1997-2002), and BBSRC Professorial Fellow (2002-2007).
Professor Partridge's research focuses on the biology of ageing, specifically on understanding the mechanisms by which healthy lifespan can be extended in laboratory model organisms and humans. Her work has particularly emphasized the role of nutrient-sensing pathways, such as the insulin/insulin-like growth factor signalling pathway, and the effects of diet. She is renowned for her research on geroprotective drugs and their potential to extend healthspan and lifespan.
Analysis of Professor Partridge's recent publications reveals a strong focus on understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms of ageing across multiple model systems including Drosophila, mice, and human cohorts. Her work spans genetics, pharmacology, and epidemiology, with particular emphasis on pathways like mTOR, autophagy, and MAPK/ERK signaling. Recent publications also highlight increasing interest in neurodegenerative aspects of ageing, particularly ALS/FTD, and the social determinants of biological ageing.
- Dame Commander of the British Empire for Services to Science (2009)
- Fellow of the Royal Society (1996)
- Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences
- Foreign Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences
- Darwin-Wallace Medal from The Linnean Society of London (2009)
- BBSRC Anniversary Award for Excellence in Bioscience (2014)
- Multiple honorary doctorates from prestigious institutions including Oxford, Edinburgh, and Imperial College London
Professor Partridge has been instrumental in establishing major research initiatives in ageing, including the Institute of Healthy Ageing at UCL and the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing in Cologne. She has received substantial research funding to investigate the fundamental mechanisms of ageing and potential interventions to extend healthspan. Her mentorship has shaped the careers of numerous scientists in the field of biogerontology, though specific students are not listed in the available information.
Professor Partridge leads the Institute of Healthy Ageing at UCL, which brings together researchers from diverse disciplines to study the biological mechanisms of ageing and age-related diseases. She also maintains strong collaborative ties with the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing in Cologne, which she founded, creating a powerful international network for ageing research.
