Linda Konnerth is a Professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Cologne. Her research combines historical and functional-typological approaches to language, focusing on diachronic grammar changes and the dynamics of linguistic categories like 'person' in the Trans-Himalayan (Tibeto-Burman) languages of Northeast India.
She has a strong background in language description and documentation, particularly in the Trans-Himalayan region. Her PhD dissertation was a grammar of Karbi (Assam, Northeast India), and she is currently working on a grammatical description of Monsang (Manipur, Northeast India). Her work emphasizes collaboration through the Northeast Indian Linguistics Society, integrating international scholars, local researchers, and community activists.
Konnerth's research contributes to understanding the prehistory of the Eastern Himalayan Region, where Trans-Himalayan languages interact with Indo-European, Austroasiatic, and Tai-Kadai families. This area, with the highest density of Trans-Himalayan languages, provides insights into one of the world's largest linguistic families.
