Linda Adler-Kassner is an Associate Vice Chancellor of Teaching and Learning and Professor of Writing Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). She holds a B.A. from Macalester College and M.A./Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. Her work focuses on defining and assessing literacy practices, exploring disciplinary expertise, and fostering inclusive education through research-based frameworks. She directs the Center for Innovative Teaching, Research, and Learning (CITRAL) and teaches graduate courses in composition theory and pedagogy.
Her research examines values and ideologies embedded in literacy education and their impacts on learners. Recent work emphasizes collaborative approaches between faculty and students to create equitable classroom environments. She actively contributes to national initiatives in writing program administration, having served as Chair of the Conference on College Composition and Communication, President of the Council of Writing Program Administrators, and NCTE board member.
