Lin Li is a Professor and Graduate Program Director in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Indiana University. She leads the Planetary and Environmental Remote Sensing Lab (PERSL), an interdisciplinary research team advancing remote sensing applications for planetary science and environmental systems.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Planetary Geology, Brown University, 2002
- M.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Brown University, 2001
- M.Sc. in Geoscience Remote Sensing, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1989
- B.Sc. in Geological Sciences, Jilin University, 1986
Her research integrates planetary surface analysis with Earth environmental monitoring, specializing in radiative transfer modeling for vegetation, soil, snow, and water quality parameters. She develops advanced image processing algorithms for material detection and classification while applying geospatial techniques to quantify climate change impacts across terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.
PERSL's mission focuses on pioneering remote sensing technologies to address global environmental challenges and investigate geological evolution processes on extraterrestrial bodies through cutting-edge experimental and theoretical approaches.
