Limarys Caraballo

Dr. Limarys Caraballo is an Associate Professor of English Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching. She serves as a faculty affiliate of the Institute for Urban and Minority Education (IUME) and co-director of Cyphers for Justice, a youth development program rooted in Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR). Her research focuses on identity, literacy, and curriculum in urban educational contexts, advocating for culturally sustaining pedagogies and social justice. Caraballo holds a PhD from Teachers College (2012) and has taught at various institutions, including Queens College and St. Mary’s College High School.

Her research interests include multiple identities and literacies, critical epistemologies, and the interplay between curriculum theory and pedagogical practice. She has led projects on youth empowerment through YPAR, teacher education reform, and equity in urban schools. Notable awards include the AERA Social Context of Education Early Career Award (2021) and the NCTE-CNV Fellowship (2010–2012).
