Lilli Mittner

Lilli Mittner is an Associate Professor at the Center for Women's and Gender Research at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. Her work focuses on gendered expressions, aging/dementia studies, Arctic humanities, and arts-based methodologies. Since 2014, her research increasingly engages with Arctic contexts, including coordinating the Center for Arctic Humanities since 2023.

Research Interests:

• Aging and Dementia: Exploring care practices and policy through co-creative arts interventions
• Coastal Cultures: Linking Arctic communities to broader sociocultural narratives
• Gender Equality: Analyzing institutional barriers and transformative pedagogies in academia
• Historiography: Using performative methods to challenge traditional storytelling
• Sound and Music: Interdisciplinary studies of music history and decolonization

Her projects include the EU-funded CO-VISION digital archive, the Artful Dementia Research Lab (citizen science), and the Voices of Women in the Arctic ERASMUS+ initiative.

Recent publications highlight intersectional gender equality in Arctic academia, dementia policy critique, and art-science collaborations. She actively participates in networks like UArctic's Gender Thematic Group and the International Research Network Arts & Dementia.

Her work emphasizes qualitative methods such as diffractive analysis, ethnography, and situated art interventions. Current research integrates agential realism and multisensorial approaches to reimagine dementia care and academic practices.
