Liling Huang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at George Mason University's Volgenau School of Engineering, and holds the Dominion Energy Faculty Fellow title. Her roles include teaching, research leadership, and industry collaboration. She is based in Fairfax campus at Nguyen Engineering Building Room 3207.
Education: PhD in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech. Professional credentials include IEEE Senior Member and Professional Electrical Engineer certification in Taiwan. Prior to academia, she worked in government roles designing electrical systems for large-scale buildings and conducting smart building research.
Research focuses on power systems protection, microgrids, energy management, and smart building technologies. She leads the Power Engineering Program and manages the Power Engineering Program Advisory Board. Her industry engagements include consulting for Dominion Energy on transmission protection and workforce training.
Recognition includes the 2024 Dean’s Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence. She pioneered the Mason Power Community initiative and developed innovative online learning modules. Research collaborations emphasize renewable energy integration and grid stability solutions.
Operates the Smart Grid Lab, a facility advancing grid modernization and energy storage systems. Active in K-12 outreach through summer camps promoting renewable energy engineering education.
