Liliana Fernandes is an Assistant Professor and researcher at the Center for Studies in Management and Economics (CEGE), Católica Porto Business School, Catholic University of Portugal. Her work contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in areas related to human development and social well-being.
Her research focuses on child well-being, public policy, social policy, and socio-economic indicators. She has pioneered multidimensional approaches to measuring child well-being that incorporate children’s own perceptions, with applications in Portugal and international contexts. Her methodological innovations include weighting schemes based on individual child input, enhancing the accuracy and relevance of well-being indices.
The trends in her recent publications show a strong focus on the intersection of economics, political economy, and human development. Her work spans empirical studies, review essays, and theoretical contributions, often published in high-impact journals such as Social Indicators Research, Journal of Socio-Economics, and Child Indicators Research. She has an upcoming article in New Political Economy that critically examines the economics of human development and social reproduction.

Advising and Grants: Liliana Fernandes has supervised doctoral and master’s theses, contributing to the training of next-generation researchers in social sciences and economics. She has also served as a guest editor and reviewer for Child Indicators Research, and is a member of the Collaborative Laboratory Against Poverty and Social Exclusion.
