Lihong Liu

Lihong Liu is the Sally Michelson Davidson Professor of Chinese Arts and Cultures and Assistant Professor of History of Art at the University of Michigan. She holds affiliations with the International Institute, Lieberthal-Rogel Center for Chinese Studies, and the Department of History of Art within the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. Liu earned her PhD in Art History from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University.

Her research explores intersections of time, matter, space, and motion in art, with a focus on ecological approaches to art history, transcultural material studies, and the art of simulation. Current projects include a book on temporal structures in 15th-16th century Chinese painting, Yuan-Ming period garden-painting entanglements, and the global history of colorless glass. Her work bridges Chinese art historiography with transnational material culture studies.
