Ligia Silva

Ligia Silva is a Professor at Lusófona University, teaching in the Master's Degree and PhD in Architecture, and a teacher at ISCTE University of Lisbon for the postgraduate program 'Collaborative Territories'. She also teaches 'Architecture and Society' at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP) since 2020, with a career spanning architectural design, theory, and historical preservation.

Education:

• Licenciatura in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon
• PhD in Architectural Rehabilitation from the University of Coruña
• Specialization in Earth Sciences from the Faculty of Science, University of Porto

Her research focuses on architectural rehabilitation, cultural heritage, collaborative urbanism, and architecture education. Recent publications address post-war reconstruction in Syria, housing policies in Brazil and Portugal, gendered monastic spaces, and pedagogical strategies in architectural education. Her work emphasizes community-led projects and sustainable urban practices.

She founded Arquitectos Sem Fronteiras Portugal, served as Chair of Architecture Sans Frontières Internacional (2018-2023), and co-coordinates the 'Right to the City' program. Since 2012, she is an integrated member of the Center for Studies in Architecture and Urbanism at FAUP.
