Liewei Wang, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor of Pharmacology and Chair of the Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics at Mayo Clinic. She also serves as the Bernard and Edith Waterman Director of the Pharmacogenomics Program within the Center for Individualized Medicine. Her work focuses on pharmacogenomics, particularly in anti-cancer therapies and personalized medicine, aiming to optimize drug response through genomic analysis.
Dr. Wang earned her MD from FuDan University Medical School and her PhD in Pharmacology from Mayo Graduate School. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship under Dr. Richard Weinshilboum at Mayo Clinic.
Research Interests: Her lab investigates biomarkers for drug response prediction, clinical GWAS in breast cancer, and translational studies in therapeutic resistance (e.g., BEAUTY and PROMOTE projects). Key areas include pharmacogenomics of antineoplastic agents, genomic signatures for therapy resistance, and integration of EHR data for precision medicine.
Awards & Grants: Recipient of prestigious awards including the Leon I. Goldberg Early Investigator Award (2016) and the ASPET-Astellas Award (2007). Active grants include projects on PARP inhibitor resistance, genomic medicine in EHR systems, and breast cancer SPORE research.
Labs & Teams: Leads the Pharmacogenomics and Drug Targets Laboratory, focusing on drug response mechanisms and personalized treatment strategies.
