Liesl Peters is a Lecturer in the Sydney School of Health Sciences at the University of Sydney. She is an occupational therapist and academic with expertise in social justice, decolonizing praxis, and community development. Her work focuses on young people, particularly womxn, navigating pathways to social inclusion in marginalized contexts.
She holds an honorary position as an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Cape Town’s Department of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences and is a member of the International Society of Occupational Science Executive Board. She co-developed the Occupation-based Community Development Framework, a guide for equity-focused occupational therapy.
Liesl’s research explores how young people in diverse global contexts navigate social inclusion, with a focus on the digital age’s impact on health and well-being. She advocates for transdisciplinary approaches in health sciences education and curricula decolonization.
Her teaching emphasizes justice-focused practice, qualitative methodologies, and arts-based pedagogies. She has received recognition for her contributions, including the 2016 University of Cape Town Social Responsiveness Award.
