Liesje De Boeck is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at KU Leuven, affiliated with the Operations Management Research Group. She holds dual main work addresses in Brussels and Leuven. Her research focuses on performance analysis of production/service systems, discrete-event simulation, operations management/operations research, and gamified educational approaches. She actively participates in academic governance as a member of the Council of the Faculty of Economics and Business and the Campus Council FEB (Brussels).
Her teaching responsibilities include courses such as Operational Management, Operations Research, and Production and Logistics Management. She has supervised doctoral students like Jeroen Van Engeland and Hans Vermuyten. Her work integrates optimization techniques with real-world applications in waste management, healthcare operations, and renewable energy systems.
Recent research highlights include developing role-playing games for teaching linear programming (e.g., Game of Thrones-themed educational frameworks) and optimizing waste collection logistics using IoT. She has also contributed to solar panel malfunction detection methods and airline maintenance scheduling algorithms. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges operations research with practical problem-solving across diverse sectors.
Key contributions span over 25 years, with notable work on surgical workflow optimization, dose optimization in brachytherapy, and lean education methodologies. Her research emphasizes sustainability through closed-loop supply chains and smart material collection systems, reflecting a commitment to both academic rigor and societal impact.
