Lidia Georgieva

Prof. Lidia Georgieva is a physician, academic, and public health expert with over 35 years of experience as a university lecturer and scientific researcher at the Faculty of Public Health, Medical University-Sofia. She holds a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Epidemiology and a PhD in Public Health from the Open University in Cambridge, UK, with a thesis titled 'Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Diseases.' Her career spans international consultancy roles with WHO, the European Commission, and private healthcare companies, alongside leadership in national health policy and over 25 research projects.

Her research focuses on public health, epidemiology, health policy, and disaster medicine, with an emphasis on risk management in healthcare systems. She has contributed to policy development and implemented practical methodologies in the Bulgarian Ministry of Health and private sector entities.

Prof. Georgieva has led the Department of Preventive Medicine at her faculty and collaborated with institutions like MARSH, Mercer, and Oliver Wyman. She has over 160 publications in international and national journals, serves on editorial boards of six journals, and has reviewed work at two World Congresses on Public Health.

She is actively involved in international organizations, including ASPHER (where she chaired the OSI-ASPHER board for Europe) and eight other professional associations, shaping public health education and policy.
