Liang Xu is a Professor in the Department of Molecular Biosciences at the University of Kansas. His research focuses on molecular cancer therapy targeting RNA-binding proteins and developing nanotechnology-based drug/gene delivery systems. He has led clinical trials for novel therapeutics, including a pan-Bcl-2/Bcl-xL/Mcl-1 inhibitor and XIAP inhibitor, and holds multiple patents for nanovector technologies.
- Targeting RNA-binding proteins (HuR, Musashi-1/2) to overcome cancer resistance
- Designing nanovectors for tumor-targeted delivery of p53, siRNA, miRNA, and CRISPR
- Translational research bridging bench-to-clinic for cancer and cardiac therapies
His work spans Drug Discovery, Nanotechnology, and Genetic Engineering, with publications in high-impact journals. He has secured NIH and DOD grants and contributed to clinical trials in breast, prostate, and head/neck cancers.
Recent studies highlight his exploration of HuR inhibition in cardiac remodeling, septic AKI progression, and immunotherapy enhancement via PD-L1 modulation. His lab also investigates molecular mechanisms like Musashi-RNA interactions and CD147 signaling in cancer stem cells.
