Liang Feng is an Associate Professor at Stanford University with primary affiliation in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology and a courtesy appointment in Structural Biology. He is also a member of Bio-X and the Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute.
- PhD, Princeton University (2006)
- MPhil, HKUST (2002)
- B.S., Tsinghua University (1999)
His research focuses on structural biology of membrane proteins, particularly their roles in cellular metabolism and pharmacological targeting. He employs multi-disciplinary approaches including cryoelectron microscopy, functional assays, and computational modeling to study transporter mechanisms and develop small molecule modulators for therapeutic applications.
Recent publications highlight structural advances in mitochondrial pyruvate carrier, sodium-chloride cotransporters, and lysosomal transporters, with implications for diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases, and blood-brain barrier research. His work bridges basic science with drug development through high-resolution structural analysis.
- NIH Director's New Innovator Award (2015)
- Klingenstein-Simons Fellow (2015)
- Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow (2014)
Liang Feng actively mentors graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in the Biophysics and Molecular and Cellular Physiology PhD programs, serving as advisor or co-advisor for 12 students since 2015. His laboratory website is currently under construction.
