Liane Rose Colonna

Liane Rose Colonna is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Law, Stockholm University, specializing in the intersection of law and information technology. She is a key researcher in the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program – Humanities and Society (WASP-HS) and serves as Principal Investigator for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Innovative Training Network 'Privacy-Aware and Acceptable Video-Based Technologies and Services for Active and Assisted Living' (visuAAL). Colonna is also actively involved in the Swedish Law and Informatics Research Institute (IRI) and the Digital Futures Faculty, a cross-disciplinary research collaboration between KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University, and RISE Research Institutes of Sweden.

Colonna leads courses such as 'Legal Aspects of Information Security' at SU’s Department of Computer Science and 'Global Legal Research and Information Management' for doctoral students. She previously worked on the EU Horizon 2020 PAAL project, developing privacy-aware lifelogging tools for elderly care, and has contributed to initiatives like e-Skills Match and Skills Match. Her publications analyze tensions between data mining and EU data minimization principles, regulatory gaps in law enforcement data practices, and the paradoxical relationship between surveillance technologies and individual privacy rights.
