Levin Hornischer is an Assistant Professor at the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy (MCMP) at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. His research focuses on the foundations of artificial intelligence (AI), combining mathematical and philosophical approaches. He holds a PhD from the University of Amsterdam's Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC), funded by an NWO fellowship on 'Foundations of Analogical Thinking'.
Education:
- PhD in Philosophy, University of Amsterdam (2021)
- Postdoctoral Researcher at ILLC, University of Amsterdam
Research Interests: Foundations of AI, dynamical systems theory, mathematical logic, philosophy of language (hyperintensionality, synonymy), formal semantics, neural network interpretability, and axiomatic principles in machine learning.
Recent Articles: Focus on bridging AI theory with dynamical systems, neural network logic, and formal semantics. Key themes include relevance logic in dynamical systems, neural network explainability, and cognitive synonymy.
Awards: Dutch Research Council (NWO) Fellowship on Foundations of Analogical Thinking (2018-2021).
Grants & Collaborations: NTU-LMU Joint Seed Funding for 'Synonomy in AI' (2025) with Shawn Standefer, investigating Large Language Models and formal semantics.
Labs/Teams: MCMP, Logic and Philosophy of Language Chair at LMU Munich.
